Paris (75009) FOUND OFF OFF MARKET: When Rue des Martyrs Steals Your Heart
Our Swedish-American buyers, based in the U.S. Midwest, had long dreamed of a second home in Europe — a place that could become a central base for their family during extended stays. Paris was the unanimous favorite. With their youngest of four children now in high school, they were ready to spend more time here, and their search began.
They had a clear vision: a classic Parisian apartment in an older building, full of charm and flooded with natural light. Renovation wasn’t a dealbreaker, but move-in ready was ideal for enjoying their new home as soon as possible.
As for neighborhoods, they were torn. The timeless elegance of the 6th and Saint-Germain-des-Prés had its allure, as did the vibrant, artsy Marais. But something about the creative energy of the rue des Martyrs in the 9th kept calling them back.
After exploring several properties across all three areas, we visited yet another apartment near rue des Martyrs. While there, we struck up a conversation with an agent we’ve worked with for years — and asked the magic question: “Anything coming soon?” As it happened, a potential seller had just asked for a valuation, but hadn’t even committed to listing. No sales mandate. No formal listing. Just a maybe.
For our clients — who were leaving Paris in just a few days — that was enough. They had to see it.
This is when trust and long-standing relationships make all the difference. The agent convinced her team to allow a showing — despite the risks and the usual industry rules. Because of our history of working with integrity and discretion, we got access.
It was love at first sight. The apartment, right on rue des Martyrs, exceeded every hope. We quickly opened a dialogue with the seller, and after some delicate negotiations (and a bit of persuading on his part at home!), an agreement was reached. Best of all, the apartment had recently undergone a meticulous, high-quality renovation — a true bonus.
The cherry on top? Our clients closed just in time for the Paris Olympics.
